What is GUTTY?

If there is 1 thing that changes the course of history for golf, it will be the invention of GUTTY golf ball by Robert Adams Paterson in 1848. Golf ball was previously called Feathery balls because it was made from feather and leather. As a result, golf balls were really expensive and this sport was only played by royal families, elite class and very wealthy people. 

When GUTTY, the first ever rubber golf ball was invented, due to lower raw material and manufacturing cost, its price dropped from 5 shilling to around 1 shilling. This has brought the game of golf to the masses as a result of lower price ball.

Why do we create this brand?

The invention of Gutty ball inspires us to make golf more affordable than ever before. We want to get more people to join the game. The high price of golf ball and equipment is certainly killing the industry.

Golf has certainly evolved over the years but not its business model. It is still largely distributed in traditional channel whereby every layer takes a cut. Brands are also spending unreasonable large amount of money on PGA player sponsorship.

We are the first and the only in Southeast Asia daring enough to take this leap of faith. We believe that customer deserves to get the best quality product at the right pricing and value. Not a marked-up pricing due to inefficient business model or unreasonable sponsorship money at the expense of our customers.

We name our brand after ‘Gutty’ because they have inspired us to make an impact to the world. It also means bravery, standing up against the odds to deliver what’s best for our customer.

Do you know that first gutty golf ball is actually made of gutta-percha from Malaysia? The word Gutta comes from Getah (in Malay) and Percha is an older name for Sumatra. Perhaps, we as Malaysians has underestimated how much we have contributed to the world of golf.

This material was discovered by Robert Patterson when he received an idol from india which was wrapped around by Gutta Percha. His invention has brought down the cost and improved golf ball performance drastically.
